    REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to the Global Citizen Honors Program (GCHP) must have a 3.5 GPA, complete this online application, and submit an essay on a set topic described below.

    OUR MEMBER MISSION

The Global Citizen Honors Program provides its members with opportunities to explore areas of personal interest more in depth; to engage with others in a broad range of intellectual inquiry; and to investigate global, interdisciplinary issues by inquiring into the theories and philosophical underpinnings of complex social issues. It asks its members to be involved with the problems they are investigating, with each other, and with the world around them; and it expects members to draw their own map of where they want their education to go.

    GCHP APPLICATION ESSAY

Write an essay of about 500 words in response to the prompt below. Your essay should be original work, though you should feel free to consult and reference sources. (You will be asked to provide a statement regarding their ethical use of sources.) Your essay should demonstrate a clear purpose, an understanding of your audience, and the thoughtful development of ideas.

Write a short essay in response to one of the prompts below:

    • Curiosity often drives students to explore topics beyond their formal education. Describe a time when you pursued an intellectual interest or academic passion independently. How did you identify and explore this interest outside the confines of traditional coursework? Discuss any challenges you encountered and how you overcame them. What did this independent pursuit teach you about yourself and your academic goals? Explain how this experience has prepared you for the intellectual rigor of the honors program and how you plan to continue nurturing your curiosity within this community.

    • The pursuit of knowledge often involves exploring diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches. Reflect on an academic or personal project where you integrated insights from multiple fields or viewpoints. Describe the process you undertook to merge these perspectives and the impact it had on your understanding of the topic. How has this interdisciplinary approach influenced your academic goals and aspirations? Discuss how you intend to apply this approach within the honors program and how it aligns with your vision for your future studies.

    • Honors programs often attract students who are driven by a passion for making a meaningful impact. Identify a particular challenge or issue you have encountered, whether in your academic, extracurricular, or personal life, that you were passionate about addressing. Describe the steps you took to tackle this challenge and the outcomes of your efforts. How did this experience shape your understanding of leadership, innovation, or problem-solving? Explain how you envision leveraging these skills and insights within the honors program and beyond.

Statement on the ethical use of sources

Use the space below to provide a statement crediting sources you used in developing your essay. Sources may include such things as feedback from others, online articles, generative AI tools, books, and so on. If you did not use any sources in developing your essay, indicate this. Do not leave this field blank.
